COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSES:

-To provide nursing service in advanced cancer care, palliative care, ALS and foot care
-Bilingual, member of OIIQ
-Must have a car
-Experience in oncology an asset, good assessment skills, able to work independently

-Foot Care Certification an Asset

 Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Provides primary care and education to cancer and ALS clients and families in a community setting

Functions as an integral member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team

Conducts foot care clinics

Participates in wellness/support programs, teaching courses, preceptoring engagements and other business ventures aimed at promoting health in the community as needed

Works complementarily with other healthcare organizations and professionals

Participates actively in public awareness activities to promote NOVA West Island’s programs and services

 

Current registration with OIIQ

Functional bilingualism (English & French)

Clinical experience in oncology/palliative care and/or community health care

Capable of performing and communicating bio-psycho-social assessments

Excellent communication, time management and organization skills

Able to work independently and as a team member

Advanced educational preparation is an asset

FOOT CARE

Proper foot care prolongs mobility and independence. Our specially trained registered nurses provide foot care in 7 different community clinics.  Our target audience is clients with decreased vision, diabetes, arthritis, circulation problems and other conditions affecting foot health and care.

 

Assessment of foot health and related conditions by a registered nurse with special training in foot care.

 

Our specially trained registered nurses provide foot care including:

·         Assessment including monofilament testing

·         Clipping and filing of toe nails

·         Treatment and care of corns, calluses, ingrown nails, thickened nails

·         Preventative foot care for high risk clients with diabetes, arthritis and circulation problems

·         Establishment and follow-up of TNP’s

·         Referral to doctors, podiatrists or other health professionals as necessary

·         Health teaching

 

Notes:The nurse cannot treat open wounds or apply medications without a doctor’s order.

 

The nurse does not use “reflexology” or perform the tasks of an esthetician (i.e. nail polish application).

 

 

 

 

 

HOME HEALTH AIDES: caring, compassionate persons with:

-Training as an aide or orderly from a recognized school
-Bilingual English/French 
-Availability days, evenings and some weekends, on-call list
-Access to a car preferable
